Three months shy of forty and the writer, director, and star claims she needs to stay in her lane, but she's talented enough to warrant taking up a highway. Shot in black and white, "The 40-Year-Old Version" explores the challenges and compromises that come with being a black female artist. Any one of those themes would fill a script so we're in for a ride with this all-in story. The protagonist is a little old for a coming-of-age effort, but this is undoubtedly about finding your voice. Shiny and new.
