Silence

Drama History

In the 17th Century, two Christian missionaries travel to Japan to locate their missing mentor.

"Silence" is an essay on the role of the Christian mission during the 17th Century. The unorthodox setting provides an insightful and stark comparison to the commitment of faith in the present day. Watching Japanese Christians punished brutally for their beliefs is heartbreaking, and becomes a little more unsettling as their persecution takes place among the beautiful vistas of their native land. The film's commentary on theology is clear, and will ironically require a test of patience and sacrifice from its own audience to endure the lengthy running time. Outspoken.
