Perfect Days

Hirayama works fastidiously cleaning toilets in the Shibuya district of Tokyo while he leads a simple life listening to music and reading.

The protagonist adheres to a meticulous morning routine before buying coffee from a vending machine by his front door and starting up his truck. "Perfect Days" lulls the audience into thinking that not very much is happening. The action is held in small moments, but we're gradually drawn in, so much so that one might find themselves anticipating the revelation of the morning's cassette song track. What looks like an uncomplicated life is a finely constructed existence lived with respect and awareness. It's a new dawn, it's a new day.
