A time capsule revealing a flamboyant story that emerged from the heart of the post-war immigration surge from Italy to Melbourne. The star of the show is a colourful character who turns his ethnicity into an asset, airing commercials in his native tongue and appointing himself as the king of baroque. His congenial persona won a following who appreciated a character unapologetic for his background and taste. The pacing flags towards the end but we're left with a sense that there's no more to tell.
