On Chesil Beach

Set in a small hotel on the Dorset coast in 1962, a newlywed couple tries to consummate their marriage.

The 1960s was a decade of sex, drugs and rock n' roll, marked by social upheaval. The couple in this story were yet to be affected by the ensuing cultural change. Their relationship is a curious mix of infatuation and awkwardness, they're blindly in love but cannot speak about sex. The actors embody an uneven mix of naiveté and confidence, capably capturing the subtleties of class differences, both essential in a plot dependent on the unspoken. A shore thing.
