An LA teenager negotiates with his brother for an old deck and hooks up with a rad group of street skaters.

It's hard to describe the subculture featured in "Mid90s" without using some of their language, but nobody likes a fakie. Skateboarding is merely a plot foil and the real story here is about adolescence. The strength of this movie is in its authenticity; the characters are borne of keen observations, laden with all of their teenage angst, insecurities and bravado. The action is both edgy and deeply credible, impossible to avert your gaze, and it's celebrated with a pumped-up original soundtrack. Halfpipe dreams.
