Little Women

Drama

A retelling of Louisa May Alcott's "Little Women", written in 1869 for audiences of young women.

Offered as proof that a classic may not necessarily be timeless is the dictum that by the end of a tale, a woman should be either married or dead. Rather than being bereft of life, this is a film that bubbles with exuberance and precociousness. Relentless acts of selflessness may cause audiences to suffer joyousness fatigue. Thankfully, comedic touches and the occasional malevolence are a mercy. Marvellous acting and enchanting costuming allow us to forgive the odd chronological error and wish for a gentile if impoverished life. Happily ever after.
