Lion

Drama

A young Indian boy is adopted by an Australian couple. 25 years on, he searches for his long-lost family with the few memories he has left of his childhood.

If you don't leave "Lion" in a flood of tears, you might question your humanity. The story itself is so extraordinary, there is very little for the film to do. Nonetheless, the opening chapter is heartbreaking, watching a young Saroo navigate the chaos of India and observe those small interactions that brilliantly capture the strong relationship with his family. In Australia, the search for his birthplace is handled a little haphazardly, and is a far less riveting and memorable section of the film. But don't dismay, all is vindicated in the triumphant ending. Hope comes to life.
