"I, Tonya" is a dark comedy that chronicles the highs and many lows of the most famous figure skater of all time. Filmed in part as a mockumentary, the various accounts deliberately muddle the truth of the story. As the title suggests, Tonya takes the overriding perspective and our empathy largely lands with her, as she exhibits her brash and tenacious attitude to skate against a barrage of physical and emotional abuse. It's a brave and oddly humorous retelling that makes the infamous 'incident' in the lead-up to the Olympics even more dumbfounding. I, shocked.
