Corsage

A fictional telling of a year in the life of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, set in 1877 when she turned 40 and was deemed an 'old woman'.

"Corsage" holds an at times befuddling mix of eras. It's purportedly a telling of a regal story from history, and the director enhances the tale by interpreting it with a modern lens. The complexity of a conflict between tradition and novelty is central to the story, as evidenced by the soundtrack. Not strictly being one or the other delivers a disquieting element to an otherwise thrilling production. Galloping yet still chafing at the bit.
