Beatriz at Dinner

When her car breaks down at a client's home, a holistic healer is invited to join the corporate couple and their friends for dinner.

As a satirical piece set at a dinner party, "Beatriz at Dinner" comes close to biting off more than it can chew. The actors in this savage social drama are superb in their respective roles; as ultimately the action is minimal and the talk and facial expressions have to carry the story. Polite conversation devolves into overt hostility, and the audacious last scenes reveal whether a class divide and differences in deeply held values can be resolved. Expect heartburn.
