Annihilation

A group of scientists go on a research expedition into a strange electromagnetic bubble known as "The Shimmer".

"Annihilation" is a low-key film of thought-provoking fiction that sadly struggles to intrigue beyond its curious premise. There's great mystery surrounding the newfound quarantine zone, and it doesn't disappoint upon entry. Awash with violet-green hues and fantastical metamorphosis, the imagination and visuals are memorable. If only the plot didn't move at an (unmutated) snail's pace. The strong female-led company plod from one strange phenomenon to the next, prolonging the revelation of its ambiguity until the very end. A ponderous swamp.
